Prof.Dr. Rıdvan EGE
Dr. Rıdvan EGE was born in Denizli province in 1925. He completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Denizli province.
In 1948, He graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine as a military student with a very good degree. After a one-year internship at the Gulhane Military Medical Academy, he worked for two and a half years as a general practitioner in Erzincan and for six months as a doctor for pilots in Diyarbakir.
After becoming a specialist in general surgery in Turkey, in 1955 he enrolled at Columbia University in the United States to specialize in orthopedics and traumatology and returned home in 1959 as a specialist in orthopedics and traumatology.
Upon returning to Turkey, he was appointed director of the Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic, which he first opened in 1961 at GATA Hospital. In the same year he received the title of associate professor.
After the illness of the only teacher of orthopedics and traumatology at the Clinic of Orthopedics and Pediatric Surgery of the Ankara University Medical Faculty, by decision of the Council of Ministers, he was sent to the Clinic of Orthopedics and Pediatric Surgery of the Ankara University Medical Faculty for five years.
In 1962, he worked for one year at Harvard and Columbia Universities.
In 1968, under the Fulbright program, he was sent to America for a residency in hand surgery at the universities of Southern California and Columbia.
He has served as Dean of Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, Senate Member and Interuniversity Board Member of Ankara and Gazi Universities, Directorate of Accidents Research Institute, Gulhane Military Medical Academy, Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine and Gazi University Faculty of Medicine Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology, World Health Organization Consultant, Ministry of Health Consultant, Kizilay Board Member.
He pioneered the establishment of Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine and Gazi University Faculties of Medicine and the adoption of laws.
Our teacher has one hundred and eleven books, sixteen of which are in English, and three hundred and sixteen published research and study papers. He is the owner and editor of two medical journals published in foreign languages and has been the Co-Editor of two journals.
Dr. Rıdvan Ege is a Founding Member and President of the Turkish Association for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled, the Turkish Foundation for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled, the Turkish Association of Orthopedics and Traumatology and the Turkish Association of Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery, he has been the President for a long time. In addition, he has held the positions of President of the Turkish Traffic Accidents Relief Foundation and the Modern Surgical Education and Research Association of Turkey for a long time and has been awarded the title of Honorary President from both organizations.
He has been a member of the Board of Directors of ICS (College of International Surgery), IFSSH (International Federation of Hand Surgery Associations), FESSH (European Federation of Hand Surgery Associations), EFORT (European Federation of Orthopedic and Traumatology Associations) or General Consoul and SICOT International Comitee. He was an honorary member of the Japanese Society of Hand Surgery. He was the SICOT Director (Governor), the founder of MMOT (Mediterranean and Middle East Orthopedics and Traumatology Association) and the President for twelve years. He has been the President of the International Association of Accident and Traffic Medicine (IAATM) for eight years.

He has been awarded many medals, plaques and honorary membership of the scientific board from eight foreign countries. In 1996 and 2002, he was awarded the ”Most successful Foundation President of Turkey“ plaque and certificate, the ”TUBITAK Service Award“ in 1996, the ”Service Award“ of the Medical Chambers of the Year in 1997 and the ”Gerin" medal for outstanding service to World Traffic Medicine. in 1998, he received the “Fair Play” grand prize of the Turkish National Olympic Committee as a Scientist in the Career Branch. in 2001, he was awarded the title of “Honorary Doctor of Science” in the field of Science by the Senate of Selcuk University. in 2006, he was awarded the Title of Honorary Member of the Japanese Society for Surgery of the Hand by the Japanese Society for Surgery of the Hand.
The Turkish Traffic Accidents Relief Foundation established Ufuk University with five Faculties, four Colleges and four Institutes in 1999 under the leadership of its President Rıdvan Ege and brought a large campus in Incek district to education and became the Founding Honorary Chairman of the Board of Trustees of our University in 2016.
Ridvan Ege built Anadolu High School in Ankara in the name of himself and his wife Binnaz Ege, the name of his daughter Ufuk Ege he built a kindergarden, and in the name of his brother İlhan Ege he built a primary school in İzmir. He also entered the service of the Ministry of Public Education on behalf of our teacher, his wife, Professor Dr. Binnaz donated to our university the 5-storey building of the Vocational College of Nursing and Health, which he built on behalf of the Aegean company.
Prof. Dr. Ridvan Ege died on June 8, 2017.
