Pediatric Surgery
Pediatric Surgery is a department that deals with congenital or acquired surgical diseases of infants and children under 18 years of age. The area of interest is surgical diseases of the head and neck region, thoracic cavity, abdominal cavity and inguinal region in children.
The physiologic needs of infants and children are different from those of adults and even from each other in children of different ages. In addition, some diseases are specific to childhood and differ from those of adults. Therefore, when all children under the age of 18 are faced with a surgical problem, it would be appropriate for the pediatric surgery team to be the team that will definitely be involved.
The Department of Pediatric Surgery provides outpatient and inpatient health services within the hospital. The department provides outpatient clinic services by appointment 5 days a week and on Saturdays so as not to overlap with operating room procedures. Patients are not turned away in case of non-appointment within the daily program. Outpatient or inpatient health services are provided uninterruptedly on all days of the week for patients who apply to the Pediatric Emergency Department and may require surgical intervention.
In the department, day surgery (urological surgeries such as hernia, undescended testicle, circumcision, head and neck surgeries such as lymph node biopsy, branchial residue, thyroglossal duct cyst, etc.), emergency surgical interventions that may require hospitalization for several days (abdominal surgeries such as appendicitis, intestinal obstruction, urogenital diseases such as ovarian or testicular torsion, etc.) and planned major surgical interventions are performed open or laparoscopically.
